In an exciting announcement today, Governor Jim Justice unveiled that the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources (WVDNR) is set to sponsor the 36th annual West Virginia Hunting and Fishing Show, scheduled to take place at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center from January 19 to 21.
Governor Justice, a devoted hunter and angler himself, expressed his enthusiasm for the return of this much-anticipated event, which brings together outdoor enthusiasts from various backgrounds. "I want to encourage everyone to come out and take part in this event and all the fantastic activities and announcements planned for this weekend," said Gov. Justice.
The show, opening with a ceremonial ribbon cutting by Gov. Justice on Friday, Jan. 19, promises a range of special activities over the three-day period. Attendees can look forward to a whitetail hall of fame, a charity auction, a youth outdoor challenge, an outdoor apparel fashion show, and a kid's coloring contest, featuring random drawings for a Cabela's gift card. Tickets for adults (13 and up) are priced at $12, while children 12 and under enjoy free admission.
"With more than 200 exhibitors and vendors from around the world and exciting hunting and fishing seminars and activities, the West Virginia Hunting and Fishing Show has something for every outdoor enthusiast to enjoy," remarked WVDNR Director Brett McMillion. The agency's goal in sponsoring the event is to promote the state's outdoor traditions and connect hunters, trappers, and anglers with organizations offering goods and services related to their sports.
Notably, the WVDNR will be taking orders for their newly released collectible license cards during the event. These physical license cards, available as an optional upgrade for $8 per card, provide hunters, trappers, and anglers with the choice to carry a tangible license. The proceeds from these optional upgrades will support conservation awareness campaigns aimed at preserving the state's fish and wildlife resources.
West Virginia Hunting and Fishing Show Schedule:
Friday, Jan. 19: 12:00 PM - 9:00 PM Saturday, Jan. 20: 9:00 AM - 9:00 PM Sunday, Jan. 21: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM The show is hosted by the West Virginia Trophy Hunters Association, a non-profit organization committed to wildlife conservation, education, and the promotion of hunting and hunter rights. Since its inception in 1995, the association has donated over $1.25 million to these causes and sponsors a 600-acre Wildlife Study Project in Wirt County, WV, having raised more than $700,000 for this initiative.
