  • Alderson, WV, Gears Up for a Thrilling 4th of July Celebration


    Alderson, WV, is set to ignite the summer with an exciting lineup of events to celebrate Independence Day. From June 29 to July 8, residents and visitors can look forward to a plethora of activities that promise fun for all ages.

    Kickoff Weekend: June 29-30

    The festivities begin on Saturday, June 29, with the Youth Bicycle Race Registration at 8:00 a.m., followed by the races at the Corner of Virginia & Elmwood Streets. Later that day, the adrenaline-pumping Dirt Race at Greenbrier River Estates will have spectators on the edge of their seats. The excitement continues on Sunday, June 30, with the Mud Bog race, offering a thrilling spectacle for motorsport enthusiasts.

    Decorating Contest: July 1

    On Monday, July 1, Alderson will host a Home and Business Decorating Contest, showcasing the best 4th of July-themed decorations in town. Participants will compete for the top spot, adding a festive spirit to the community.

    Independence Day Extravaganza: July 4

    The main event kicks off on Thursday, July 4, with the Grand Parade at 10:30 a.m., featuring floats, classic cars, and fire engines. The parade will culminate at the Alderson Memorial Football Field, where the day’s activities will continue. Highlights include the awarding of parade prizes, various field events, and a Tug of War competition between Greenbrier and Monroe counties.

    In the evening, attendees can enjoy live music from the Goodson Boys, followed by the introduction of Miss Fireworks 2024, LeiAnn Richmond. The night will conclude with a spectacular fireworks display, lighting up the sky in a grand celebration of freedom.

    Firemen's Rodeo: July 5

    On Friday, July 5, the Firemen's Rodeo will take place at the Alderson Memorial Football Field. This free event will feature thrilling competitions between local fire departments, offering an entertaining and action-packed evening for all.

    Weekend Festivities: July 6-7

    Saturday, July 6, will be filled with a variety of events, including the Run for Snacks 5K, a Kids Fishing Tournament, an All American Baking Contest, and an Ice Cream Social at the Alderson Depot. The evening will feature live music and performances, including the Greener Pastures Band and the beloved Mr. Record Knot.

    Sunday, July 7, begins with a Sunday Worship Service at local churches, followed by the 9th Annual Horse Show at Greenbrier River Estates. The day will also include river events at Alderson Mini Park and a Gospel Sing at the Alderson Memorial Football Field.

    Closing Day: July 8

    The celebrations will conclude on Monday, July 8, with the highly anticipated Ducks on the Greenbrier rubber duck race. Participants have a chance to win a grand prize of $5,000 cash, making it an exciting finale to the week-long festivities.

    Throughout the celebration, attendees can enjoy various concessions, duck tickets, and craft and food vendors at the Alderson Memorial Football Field. With activities ranging from sports and races to live music and fireworks, Alderson’s 4th of July celebration promises to be a memorable event for all.
